Gompa, Nimba County – The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning’s Division of Economic Policy, Macroeconomic and Financial Sector Policy has commenced a five-day working session to write the Annual Economic Review (AER) of 2024. The review aims to assess Liberia’s economic performance, highlighting achievements, growth areas, and potential risks.
The AER serves as a platform to evaluate the country’s economic performance, focusing on critical indicators such as GDP growth, inflation, fiscal and monetary trends, climate-related financial impacts, and sector-specific developments in agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing, and industry.
Assistant Minister for Economic Policy, Hon. Henry D.Z. Yanquoi, emphasized the importance of the AER in promoting evidence-based development policy and intervention. The decentralization of this function is intended to meet the expectations of the Liberian people through promoting progress and identifying challenges for corrective measures.
A representative of the Gompa City Mayor welcomed delegates and highlighted the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability. Meanwhile, the Assistant Minister for Planning and Research at the Ministry of Public Works emphasized the importance of infrastructure development and pledged to provide relevant data for the review.
The Assistant Minister for Statistics and Research expressed his enthusiasm for the working session, believing the AER is critical for national growth and progress. Officials and technicians from several Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions are attending the sessions, underscoring the government’s commitment to a comprehensive and inclusive review process. The outcome of the AER is expected to inform policy decisions and drive economic growth in Liberia.
