‎Monrovia, Liberia — The Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) has acknowledged the Ministry of Public Works’ decision to suspend construction on the ongoing Gbarnga Bridge Project in Bong County, pledging full cooperation and compliance with national regulations.

‎The response follows a communication issued on October 6, 2025, by Public Works Minister Roland Giddings, who ordered an immediate halt to all activities on the bridge site. The Ministry’s statement cited procedural breaches, including the commencement of construction without formal approval or submission of technical designs, which it said violates Liberia’s national infrastructure laws and standards.

‎The bridge project—initiated by Representative Marvin Cole and financed by CMC Political Leader Musa Hassan Bility—was intended to ease transportation challenges and promote local connectivity in Gbarnga. However, the Ministry warned that no further work should continue until all relevant documentation and technical plans are reviewed and approved.

‎In its response issued Tuesday, CMC reaffirmed its respect for the rule of law and emphasized its commitment to lawful and transparent development practices.

‎“We respect the laws and regulatory processes of our country,” the statement read. “The Citizens Movement for Change will work closely with the Ministry of Public Works to ensure that all technical and procedural requirements are met.”

‎CMC further assured residents of Bong County that the bridge project would be executed in full once the Ministry completes its review process.

‎“We want to assure the people of Bong County that this project will be completed. There is no cause for panic as discussions are ongoing to finalize the construction plans in compliance with all legal and technical standards,” the organization added.

‎The group also used the occasion to reiterate its broader commitment to community-driven development in line with Liberia’s laws and policies, stressing that all future initiatives will strictly adhere to national infrastructure procedures.
