‎Land Dispute Rocks CDC As Property Owner Blocks Party’s Headquarters Project

Monrovia —What was supposed to be a celebratory groundbreaking for the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC)’s new headquarters has spiraled into a land ownership scandal, as the property owner accuses the party of breaching a purchase agreement.

‎Edwardson, the legal owner of the land situated in Congo Town, told The People Online that the CDC has only paid US$55,000 of a US$300,000 purchase deal — leaving an outstanding balance of US$245,000.

‎“I was shocked to hear that they were planning to hold a groundbreaking ceremony when they haven’t completed my payment,” Edwardson said. “That’s gross disrespect and a clear violation of our agreement.”

‎According to documents in The People Online’s possession, Edwardson has since filed a complaint to the Monrovia City Court, which has issued a writ declaring the CDC’s presence on the land as trespassing until the matter is legally resolved.

‎Despite explanations from some CDC insiders that the launch event was intended to raise funds for both the construction and the remaining balance owed, Edwardson insists he will not tolerate any form of disrespect.

‎In an emotional tone, he warned:

‎“I dare anyone to put their foot on my land on the 18th — the day they plan to launch. Baboon will divide kola. I’ve already alerted the Police Inspector General and the court.”

‎A close associate described Edwardson as a “quiet, decent, and respectful man who simply cannot stand dishonesty.”

‎Attempts by The People Online to reach members of the CDC Building Committee proved futile, as multiple calls went unanswered.

‎The development has placed the once ruling CDC in an uncomfortable position, with the party now facing potential legal embarrassment over its planned headquarters project.
