Monrovia – As President Joseph Boakai’s convoy was booed at Rehab Junction on September 2, Senator Samuel Kogar called it unfortunate, but dismissed Ambassador Sheikh Al-Moustapha Kouyateh says leaders are missing the point because Liberians are not booing for fun, they are booing because they are hungry.
“2029 has become more important than the survival of the Liberian people,” Kouyateh blasted. “We are in 2026, not 2029! People cannot live on promises.”
While Kogar pleads for compassion for the petty sellers whose stalls were demolished after the booing, Kouyateh goes further: he accuses ALL parties of selling Liberia’s resources through bogus concessions and turning politics into “a weapon to steal, to delay, and to distract.”
The connection is hard to ignore. At Rehab, vendors lost their daily bread after the presidential booing. Across the country, Kouyateh argues, millions are losing their future to a political elite already campaigning for 2029 while children drop out of school today.
Kogar wants calm and respect for the President. Kouyateh wants a revolt against empty leadership.
One defends the office. The other defends the people.
The question now dividing Monrovia: Who is really listening to the streets?
