Angry Protesters Demand the Dismissal of Commerce Minister Ami Modad and brand him as “grossly incompetent.”

Congo Town, Monrovia – Thursday, May 23, 2024, saw a number of citizens assault the grounds of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial building in Congo Town, demanding that Commerce Minister Amin Modad be fired immediately.

The Commerce Minister was accused by the irate public of supporting rice importers in an attempt to drive up rice prices without official government clearance.

The people who were observed carrying placards with various messages stated that Mr. Modad’s unilateral move to raise the price of rice is evidence of his incapacity to effectively oversee the nation’s business sector.

Some of the demonstrators said that Minister Amin Modad should be removed from office to prevent additional embarrassment for the nation.

As President Boakai’s cabinet was forming, the demonstrators’ actions on the grounds of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex coincided with the arrest of multiple protestors by Liberia National Police officers.
