Meeting With Rice Importers Ends in Deadlock; Pres. Boakai Insists On Any Form of Increase in Rice Price

Monrovia, Liberia–Following a meeting with Rice Importers in Liberia, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., has vehemently rejected any form of increment in price of rice, urging that prices remain unchanged until further observation.

The Liberian Head of State furthered warned against hoarding of the Liberia staple diets, as well as cross-border shipment from the country.

The Ministries of Justice, Commerce and Industry including the Joint Security have been instructed to ensure that this directive is fully enforce that’s according to executive Mansion.

The hulubalu surrounding increment of rice price on the market surfaced when Rice importers send a communication to the Commerce Ministry, informing in on a plan decision to increase price of rice from US$17.50 to US$18.50, outlining that Indian government has increased surcharge on rice production which is affecting the exportation of the commodity to the global market and it could lead to the increase in the price of rice worldwide.
