A major immigration scandal has rocked the Government of Liberia following revelations of what sources describe as one of the largest re-entry permit fraud schemes in recent years. Authorities say more than 500 re-entry permits were allegedly issued or renewed through an illicit network reportedly involving officials of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) and individuals linked to Bea Mountain Mining Company.
The scheme, reportedly coordinated with the involvement of LIS official Elijah Rufus, was exposed this week, prompting swift action from the Liberian Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), which has announced a full-scale investigation into the matter.
Details surrounding the alleged criminal operation remain limited, but investigators say the network may have involved unauthorized processing, renewal, or issuance of re-entry permits for foreign nationals.
The LACC is expected to summon key individuals for questioning as the probe widens.
More updates are anticipated as the investigation unfolds.
