Monrovia, Liberia — The Ministry of Justice has firmly refuted social media rumors claiming that Justice Minister Cllr. Oswald Tweh distanced himself from an official statement regarding recent public protests.

In a press release issued over the weekend, the Ministry labeled the online claims as “false and misleading,” clarifying that the May 1, 2025, advisory—condemning the unauthorized April 30 protest—was released with the full knowledge and approval of Minister Tweh.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to civil liberties, the statement emphasized that while the right to protest is constitutionally protected, it must be exercised within the bounds of the law. The Ministry cited regulations requiring formal notification and clearance for public gatherings that could affect national security or public order.

Attorney General Tweh, according to the statement, remains unwavering in his dedication to the rule of law and supports lawful, peaceful assembly. However, he cautioned that civic rights come with responsibilities and legal conditions that must be respected.

The Ministry also urged the public to verify information through official channels and avoid sharing unsubstantiated reports that could incite public anxiety or disorder.
