Monrovia, Liberia- The Environmental Protection Agency is currently faced with legal disability as the Supreme Court issued a writ of prohibition against the entity’s acting Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Urey Yarkpawolo.
Dr. Urey-Yarkpawolo is prohibited by the highest court order from carrying out Agency’s operations until a scheduled Conference is held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
On Thursday, March 7, 2024, Associate Justice Yussif Kaba, who is in charge of the High Court, issued the writ.
The ruling is predicated upon a formal complaint filed by former EPA boss, Prof. Wilson Tarpeh.
Prof. Tarpeh’s complaint revolves around the government’s alleged failure, under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr, to fulfill salary payments for the remaining years of his tenure.
The court order cites, “By directive of his Honor Yussif D. Kaba, Associate Justice presiding in Chambers, you are hereby cited to a conference with his honor on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the hour of 1:00 PM in connection with a case filed by Prof. Wilson Tarpeh of the City of Monrovia, Meanwhile, you are ordered to stay off all further proceedings and/or actions pending the outcome of the conference.”
Prof. Tarpeh’s argument stemmed from Boakai- Koung’s administration purported inability to settle salaries for his unexpired tenure.
