Two Months On, Toni Khumalo’s Family Still Waiting for Autopsy Report; Burial Delayed

Monrovia — The family of Toni Khumalo says it cannot proceed with funeral arrangements more than two months after her death, citing the Government of Liberia’s failure to release autopsy and toxicology results.

In a statement issued Sunday, May 24, 2026, the Jackson family said the prolonged delay has taken a toll, especially on Khumalo’s mother. She is “deeply troubled” and wishes only to bury her daughter, the family said.

According to the family, an autopsy was performed on March 16, 2026. They said the Inspector General of Police committed to providing the findings within 72 hours. More than two months later, no reports have been released.

Attorneys for the family have petitioned the court for access to both the autopsy and toxicology reports to guide their next steps, but those efforts have not yielded results. The family described itself as “deeply baffled” by what it called the government’s unexplained silence.

The delay is complicating plans for an open-casket service in Khumalo’s honor. The family expressed concern that further waiting could cause additional deterioration of her remains, making that option impossible.

As of press time, the Government of Liberia and the Liberia National Police had not publicly addressed the family’s claims or provided a timeline for the release of the reports.
