Monrovia, Liberia ¬_The investigation followed the Liberia National Police reported arrest of four 40ft containers loaded with rice on Friday night March 8, 2024 while leaving the port facilities in Monrovia.
The Management of the National Port Authority has inaugurated a vigorous inquiry heeding a consignment of rice that was reportedly trucked out of the Freeport of Monrovia by unknown Individuals.
The NPA in a release disclosed that full details and findings from the investigation will be reveal during a press conference that is been arranged for the 11th of march 2024.
“The Media and General Public can be assured of an impartial probe into such condemnable incident; and the perpetrators and ALL those linked will be prosecuted consistent with findings from the investigation.” The release added.
It can be recalled of recent, President Joseph Boakai signed executive order 125 suspending tariffs on the importation of rice within the country.
The President’s move is geared towards lessening the price of Liberia’s staple food rice.
The investigation according to the NPA is implied to ensure that the Managing Director of the Port and the leadership are not subjected to any form of corruption. They furthered the MD’s commitment to structural reforms at the Free Port of Liberia.
