CPP Executive Committee Stuns by Endorsing CDC’s George Weah in Presidential Runoff

Monrovia, Liberia – In a surprising turn of events, the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) Executive Committee has officially endorsed the re-election bid of incumbent President George M. Weah, who heads the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), for the upcoming November 14 presidential runoff. The endorsement ceremony took place at the CPP’s headquarters in 19th Street Sinkor and included committee members from Liberty Party (LP) and the Alternative National Congress (ANC). The decision to support the current ruling party was explained as being based on good governance and sound economic management, despite the initial agreement between the two political parties to uphold the twelve proposals presented as conditions for their support.

Alocious Toe, the Party secretary, read the endorsement statement during a press conference, emphasizing the executive committee’s rationale for backing the CDC in the runoff election. Additionally, the Vice Standard Bearer of the CPP expressed the difficulty of the decision but deemed it necessary.

Accepting the endorsement, CDC National Party Chairman Mulbah K. Morlu extended his gratitude to the CPP’s executive and members, recognizing that their support has effectively concluded the election debate. He also suggested that the CPP’s backing may pave the way for reciprocal support in the 2029 elections. The move has left Alexander B. Cummings, the CPP’s Standard Bearer, without a preferred candidate in the runoff, as he stated that neither of the two parties contending for the presidency was suitable to lead the nation.
