Paynesville – The fallout from Wednesday’s booing of President Joseph Boakai’s convoy at Rehab Junction is now hitting ordinary market sellers, with reports of demolished structures and seized goods in the wake of the incident.
Nimba County Senator Samuel G. Kogar, while condemning the booing as “unfortunate and inappropriate,” is now raising alarm over what he calls collective punishment of struggling Liberians.
In a statement Thursday, Kogar warned against using law enforcement to squeeze petty traders who depend on daily sales to feed their families.
He appealed directly to President Boakai for compassionate intervention and a fair review of the demolitions.
The Senator’s dual message — defend the presidency, but don’t crush the poor — highlights growing tension between maintaining respect for the office and protecting vulnerable citizens from heavy-handed enforcement.
