The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia has received 15 brand-new Honda motorcycles to strengthen environmental monitoring and field inspections across the country.

The motorcycles were donated by the Government of Liberia through the Health Security Project and presented on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The donation forms part of efforts to prevent and respond to health emergencies under the One Health approach.

The Health Security Project is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the EPA. Under the arrangement, the Ministry of Health leads the human health component, the Ministry of Agriculture oversees animal health, while the EPA handles environmental health.

Presenting the motorcycles, Mr. Rafael Ngumbu, Director of the EPA’s Department of Environmental Research and Radiation Safety and focal point for the project, said the bikes will improve mobility for EPA inspectors, especially in the counties. He added that the project is also providing 15 laptops, laboratory equipment valued at about US$200,000, and postgraduate scholarships to build the Agency’s technical capacity.

Receiving the motorcycles, EPA Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo thanked the Government for the support and stressed the need for durable equipment capable of operating in rough terrain. He also thanked Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr. and Representative Jeremiah Garwo Sokan Sr. for their oversight support to the EPA.

Representative Sokan commended the EPA for improving its operational capacity and urged the Agency to ensure proper use and maintenance of the motorcycles to serve their intended purpose.
