City Court Convicts Kindness Wilson; Defense Files Immediate Appeal

By: Staff Writer

Monrovia – The Monrovia City Court has found Kindness Wilson guilty of simple assault, imposing a US$375 fine and ordering the publication of a formal apology in three local newspapers.

Moments after the ruling, defense lawyer Jeremiah Samuel Dugbo I announced an appeal, insisting his client is innocent. He argued that prosecutors failed to prove a key element of the offense, rendering the conviction legally unsustainable.

Under criminal procedure, an appeal challenges a lower court’s decision before a higher court. Legal observers note that such a move typically places a temporary hold on the enforcement of the judgment. This means Wilson will not be required to pay the fine or publish the apology until the case is reviewed by higher courts, including the Supreme Court of Liberia, which serves as the final authority on the matter.

Attorney Dugbo reaffirmed that his client will not comply with the penalties while the appeal process is ongoing.
