Capitol Hill, Monrovia – In a press statement released by the Executive Mansion, President Boakai expressed his gratitude to Dr. Nelson for his service to the University of Liberia and wished him well in his future endeavors.
The decision to relieve Dr. Nelson of his duties comes after months of turmoil at the University, including protests from students and faculty over alleged mismanagement and lack of transparency in the administration.
President Boakai reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the University of Liberia remains a premier institution of higher learning in the country and the region.
Dr. Conteh, who previously served as President of the University of Liberia from 2012-2016, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.
He has been tasked with ensuring stability at the University during this transition period and working closely with stakeholders to address any concerns and challenges facing the institution.
The appointment of Dr. Conteh as Acting President has been met with mixed reactions from students and faculty at the University of Liberia.
Some have expressed confidence in his ability to lead the institution during this critical time, while others have called for a more transparent and inclusive process in selecting a new permanent President.
The search for a new University President is expected to begin immediately, with the Interim Management Team working diligently to find a candidate who can successfully lead the University of Liberia into a new era of growth and development.
