The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has taken into custody several senior officials of the National Insurance Company of Liberia (NICOL) for questioning over alleged financial malpractice.
According to the LACC, the move comes after the officials failed to provide crucial financial documents requested by the Commission as part of an ongoing probe into suspected irregularities within the institution.
Those summoned include Chief Financial Officer Mr. Dweh Thomas Bedell, Account Clerk Mr. Prince T. Freeman, and Comptroller Mrs. Charlotte Y. D. Kpanah. Despite being granted a two-week deadline, the officials reportedly ignored repeated requests to turn over the documents.
After several unsuccessful follow-ups, the Commission exercised its legal authority to compel the officials’ cooperation in the investigation.
The LACC clarified that its actions are in line with standard investigative procedures and are not punitive. The officials, it said, have been given the opportunity to explain their roles and provide the necessary information to assist the inquiry.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in public institutions and vowed to pursue the matter in accordance with the law.
