Monrovia, Liberia – The Supreme Court of Liberia has issued a Writ of Mandamus against the Ministry of Finance & Development Planning, compelling it to explain delays in budget allocations to the 55th Legislature.
The writ, signed by Supreme Court Clerk Cllr. Sam Mamulu, orders the Finance Ministry’s leadership, including Minister Augustine Ngafuan and Comptroller Emmanuel Kopi, to file official returns by March 10, 2025. The case, brought forth by several lawmakers, accuses the ministry of withholding essential financial resources.
Legal analysts suggest that this ruling could have major implications for government accountability and transparency. The Supreme Court has warned that failure to comply could lead to serious legal consequences.
As the deadline approaches, all eyes are on the Finance Ministry’s next move in what could be a defining moment for Liberia’s fiscal governance.
