Residents of Greenville, the capital city of Sinoe County are pleading with the government of Liberia to address the pressing concerns surrounding the Greenville Central Prison.
Major Mustaphic Bassie, the prison superintendent said the prison environment of inmates is unhealthy thus laughing an appeal to central government through the bureau of corrections at the ministry of Justice for timely intervention.
Over the years, the Greenville Central Prison, situated prominently in the heart of the city, has fallen into a state of ruin, posing significant risks to both inmates and nearby residents.
Major Bassie is recommending urgent action to rehabilitate the current facility or relocate it to ensure the safety and well-being of all those affected.
Appearing as quest on a local radio station in the county, the Prison Superintendent expressed his frustration and concern over the government’s inaction regarding the deteriorating prison conditions.
Meanwhile, several sinioens have issued a stark warning that unless decisive steps are taken to address the situation, they will mobilize a massive protest to demand immediate action.
The citizens of Sinoe County seems resolute in their stance, citing the urgency of the situation and the need for crucial intervention to address the longstanding issues plaguing the Greenville Central Prison.
According to reports, several inmates at the Greenville Central Prison are grappling with skin rashes and other health related diseases due to overcrowdiness and unhealthy living conditions.
It’s also alleged that the Bureau of Corrections is making little or no efforts in addressing the situations of food and detergents supply.
The Ministry of Justice through its Bureau of Corrections is responsible to coordinate prisons and inmates across the country.
