Senatorial Candidate Dr. Wollor Topor Challenges Election Results, Cites Irregularities in Maryland County

Maryland County, Liberia – Dr. Wollor Topor, who competed in the October 10 Presidential and Legislative Elections as the Liberia National Union (LINU) candidate in Maryland County, has raised concerns about the integrity of the election.

Despite finishing second behind incumbent Senator Gble-bo Brown, Dr. Topor disclosed that he possesses substantial evidence pointing to potential irregularities and favoritism in Senator Gble-bo’s favor. In an exclusive interview with the People’s News Online, Dr. Topor revealed that he and his legal team have filed a formal complaint with the National Elections Commission (NEC), urging a recount of the ballots.

Dr. Topor emphasized that his quest for a recount is motivated by his commitment to justice and his concern that posterity might wrongly judge those who do not stand up for their rights. He stated that his challenge to the election results serves the greater good of the more than 11,800 voters who participated in the democratic process.

Dr. Wollor Topor, a well-respected educator, expressed shock at the discrepancy between the official election results and the tally sheets that portrayed a much closer race between him and the incumbent senator. He highlighted that his accumulated votes exceeded 11,800, while Senator-elect Gble-bo Brown had not provided substantial evidence to justify the reported margin of 1,111 votes that declared him the winner of the Senate seat. Dr. Topor also extended his appreciation to the people of Maryland County, particularly those in Pleebo District, who overwhelmingly supported his candidacy, resulting in a significant vote count.

He urged the people of Maryland County and his supporters to remain patient as his legal team works to ensure justice is served. The Senatorial candidate, vowing not to be a mere spectator, affirmed that his contestation was in pursuit of a fair electoral process for all citizens.

The alleged irregularities cited by Dr. Wollor Topor serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining transparency and accuracy in the electoral process, with a focus on justice and integrity. While the legal process unfolds, Maryland County residents and supporters of both candidates await the final outcome of the recount request, underscoring the significance of adhering to democratic principles and upholding the sanctity of the vote.
