Capitol Building, Monrovia – The Liberian Senate has formed a five-member mediation committee to address the escalating conflict within the House of Representatives over Speaker Fonati Koffa’s leadership.
This move comes amid growing tensions as factions within the House vie for power, with a significant bloc of 43 representatives seeking to unseat Koffa, while his supporters hold just 30 seats.
Chairing the committee is former Pro-Tempore Gbehzohngar Findley, alongside Senators Willington Geevon Smith, Thomas Yaya Nimely, Gbleh Bo Brown, and Dabah Varpilah. Their mandate: to bridge the divide and chart a path forward for the embattled legislature.
The Senate’s decision, made after a consultative meeting, underscores the urgency of resolving the internal strife that has left the House unable to convene.
As the political stakes rise, all eyes will be on this committee’s ability to foster dialogue and restore stability in Liberia’s governance.
