The Bong County District One Lawmaker made the commitment at a three day stakeholders’ engagement symposium held with Youths’ representatives, traditional leaders, women groups and the business community in Zoweinta, Wolota Clan, Kpaii district.
The three day gathering which commenced on Wednesday, May 15 was meant to ascertain the views of stakeholders on basic governance issues and to catalogue their plans and recommendations in order to ensure proper representation.
At the Stakeholders’ symposium, Representative Koinah rallied and challenged his citizens to zealously get involved with the cultivation of at least one hector of swampland for exclusive rice production.
‘‘I want to appeal to you my people, let’s rise up and start to venture into Agriculture especially Swampland farming. We are willing to work with the eight clans to establish cooperatives and register them to enable us embark on the cultivation of at least one hector of swampland for Rice production across the district’’ Rep. Koinah exclaimed.
The Bong county Lawmaker emphasized the significance of rice farming stating that such venture will alleviate poverty and improve sustainable livelihood for his people.
He encouraged his kinsmen to invest into Agriculture especially rice production on an industrial scale to help support President Boakai’s ARREST Agenda aimed at making Liberia self-sufficient in food production.
Representative Koinah however vowed to provide farming tolls including cutlasses, tiller machine, and Rice Mill amongst others to enhance productivity across the eight clans and four administrative districts (Kpaii, Boisein, Tukpablee and Kokoyah) for further processing for marketing.
‘‘I’m urging you to make available the swampland and manpower, I will provide the working materials, the tiller machine and the miller to help move faster’’ Hon. Prince K. Koinah asserts.
The University of Baltimore trained financial expert demonstrated the economic gains associated with swampland farming and how it intends to generate fat income for local farmers thus expanding the economy for societal betterment.
In separate remarks, the district youths including the Women and elders council joyfully embraced the initiative and pledged their fullest commitment in making the project a success.
Particularly for the elders, they made available swampland in Boinsein and Kokoyah for the kick start of the project. They thanked Hon. Koinah for his farsightedness and prayed God increases his wisdom to lead well.
Participants of the three day stakeholders’ engagement were drawn from across the eight clans and four administrative districts of Bong County Electoral district One.
The activities coincided with an official citizens’ appreciation tour covering the headquarter of each clan within the district.
