Monrovia, Liberia– Over sixteen Political Parties have signed a memorandum of understanding to protect and safeguard citizens’ votes ahead of October presidential and legislative poll.
The signing ceremony which was held at the Royal grand Hotel in Sinkor, Monrovia on August 28, 2023 brought together major political leaders in an effort to guarantee the decision of voters in the upcoming October 10, 2023 general elections.
Singing the MOU on behalf of their individual political parties were Alexander B. Cummings of the Collaborating political parties (CPP), Sara Beslowe Nyanti of the Liberia National League (LNL), Tainwon Gongloe of the Liberia People’s party (LPP), Luther Tarphet of the Unity party (UP), MacDella Cooper of the(MOL/UP) among others.
The Political leader and Standard bearer of the Liberia National League madam Sarah Bestlow Nyanti was the lead engineer of the MOU, she highlighted an overview of the entire process, while CPP Standard Bearer Cummings was heard as saying “opposition parties will ensure the presidential results reflect the will of the Liberian people”.
Cummings he furthered that it’s the ultimate responsibility of President Weah to ensure the elections are conducted in a free and transparent manner.
This the signing of this memorandum of understanding marks the second time for which political institutions participating in the upcoming presidential and legislative elections committing themselves to nonviolent elections.
The ceremony is to buttress the efforts of the Farmington River Declaration that was signed by 27 political parties on April 4, 2023 in Margibi County.
