Monrovia, Liberia In a decisive move to uphold integrity within its ranks, the Liberia National Police (LNP) has dismissed one officer and suspended two others following an investigation into corruption, abuse of authority, and neglect of duty. The investigation, conducted by the Professional Standards Division, was prompted by a January 17, 2025, encounter between the Inspector General of Police, Hon. Gregory O.W. Coleman, and members of the LNP highway patrol team in Bong County. During the encounter, officers were observed soliciting bribes from drivers, sparking outrage.

The disciplinary actions, which take immediate effect, target the following individuals: Sgt. Musa V. Sheriff (ID #2248): Serving as the team leader, Sgt. Sheriff has been dismissed for corruption, neglect of duty, and misconduct. His actions violated the Administrative Instructions (AI) on discipline and professional standards, a cornerstone of the LNP’s integrity framework. Patrolman Julius Reeves (ID #1733): A member of the Police Support Unit (PSU), Patrolman Reeves has been suspended for four months without salary. His involvement in unethical behavior, including neglect of duty and misconduct, warranted this penalty. Patrolman Erasmus K. Jallah (ID #6613): Serving as the team’s driver, Patrolman Jallah has been suspended for three months without salary for participating in unethical conduct. All three officers are required to surrender all Government of Liberia (GoL) property, including uniforms, badges, and other equipment, to the LNP’s Human Resources Division.

The investigation uncovered $36,000 Liberian Dollars obtained through bribes, which has been confiscated and deposited into government coffers at the Central Bank of Liberia. The deposit serves as a symbolic step toward accountability and transparency, with evidence provided in the form of a deposit document.

In a press release, the LNP reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on corruption and its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. “This action demonstrates the Liberia National Police’s unwavering commitment to ensuring accountability within its ranks and fostering public trust,” the statement emphasized. The disciplinary measures come at a critical time as public confidence in law enforcement is often tested by allegations of misconduct. With these bold actions, the LNP seeks to reassure citizens of its commitment to justice and fairness.
