Liberia’s democracy is under threat, according to the US-based human rights organization, Panoramic Justice Group. The group has raised alarms over human rights abuses and the erosion of democratic governance during President Joseph Boakai’s first year in office.
In a scathing report, the organization claimed that President Boakai’s administration jeopardizes the $4 billion investment the United States has made over the past 18 years to stabilize Liberia and foster democratic progress.
The report identified key officials allegedly involved in human rights violations and the undermining of the rule of law, including Vice President Jeremiah Koung, National Security Advisor Samuel Koffi Woods, Justice Minister Oswald Tweh, Inspector General Gregory Coleman, National Security Agency Director Prince C. Johnson, and Legal Advisor Bushenben Keita.
Panoramic Justice Group warns that these actions threaten Liberia’s hard-won stability and international reputation. The Liberian government has yet to respond to these allegations.
This report has sparked international concern, with calls for accountability and the preservation of democratic principles in the West African nation.
