The Government of Liberia has filed a lawsuit against Green Park Management, aiming to reclaim control of five public parks constructed with taxpayer funds. This legal action comes in response to an audit conducted by the General Auditing Commission (GAC), which raised concerns about the management practices of Green Park Management.
According to government sources, the lawsuit seeks to prevent Green Park Management from continuing its role in overseeing the Invincible Park in Fish Market, Unification Park in PHP Community, Survival Park in Doe Community, New Kru Town Park, and West Point Park. The GAC’s audit report highlighted that Green Park Management was established only nine days before being awarded the contract to manage these parks, a move deemed to violate sound financial practices.
The GAC has recommended that the government reclaim the parks, citing the need for transparent management in light of their public funding origins. Former President George Weah initiated the construction of these parks, but the current administration is asserting its authority to ensure they are managed in the best interest of the public.
As the lawsuit unfolds, the government emphasizes its commitment to safeguarding public resources and maintaining accountability in the management of state assets.
