Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has strengthened diplomatic and technical ties with Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Tanzania, following a series of high-level meetings held on the margins of the 8th Association of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA) Conference in Monrovia.
The discussions focused on deepening cooperation in key areas, including information sharing, capacity building, and support for each country’s candidacy for re-election to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council.
According to LiMA, the engagements underscore Liberia’s commitment to partnerships that not only enhance its own maritime sector but also contribute to amplifying Africa’s voice in international shipping.
“We remain open to collaborations that promote the growth of Liberia’s maritime program while ensuring Africa speaks with a stronger, unified voice in the global maritime industry,” a LiMA statement noted.
Delegates from Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Tanzania welcomed Liberia’s position and expressed their willingness to work on technical frameworks that will support long-term cooperation. The discussions also highlighted the importance of collective action by African nations to increase their influence in shaping global maritime policies.
The ongoing AAMA Conference has brought together maritime administrators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders from across the continent to deliberate on the future of Africa’s maritime industry. Liberia’s engagement with its partners, observers say, further positions the country as a key player in advancing regional and international shipping interests.
