Liberia Maritime Authority Celebrates 22 Retirees for Dedicated Service

The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has honored 22 of its staff members who retired from public service during a special ceremony held at the Paynesville City Hall on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

The event brought together senior officials, colleagues, and family members to celebrate the retirees for their outstanding years of commitment and contribution to the Authority and the nation’s maritime industry.

Cllr. Nya S. Gbaintor, Principal Director of Administration and Legal Services, described the occasion as a proud moment for the institution. He noted that the dedication and professionalism of the retirees had helped strengthen the values and work culture that LiMA upholds today.

Awards and certificates of recognition were presented by Mr. John B. Cuffey, Principal Director of Corporate Affairs, who commended the honorees for their loyalty and long-standing service. He emphasized that their legacy has set a strong example for younger staff and reinforced the Authority’s institutional growth.

Speaking on behalf of the LiMA Board of Directors, Vice Chairperson Mrs. Mornjay George-Pratt encouraged the retirees to embrace the next phase of life with hope and continued purpose. She reminded them that reaching retirement age marks not an ending but a new beginning filled with opportunities for reflection and fulfillment.

Cllr. Moifee Kanneh, Deputy Director General of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP), assured the retirees that their pensions and benefits would be processed without delay and reaffirmed NASSCORP’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition for all beneficiaries.

Representing the honorees, Mr. James A. A. Morris expressed heartfelt appreciation to LiMA’s leadership and staff, noting the sense of unity that defined their years of service. “We did not just work together, we became family,” he said, drawing applause from the audience.

In his remarks, LiMA Commissioner and CEO, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., extended profound thanks to the retirees for their invaluable contributions over the years. He emphasized that their relationship with the Authority would continue beyond retirement. “You will always remain part of LiMA’s history and success,” he stated.

The evening concluded in an atmosphere of joy and gratitude, with music, tributes, and reflections highlighting the remarkable service of those who helped build the foundation of Liberia’s maritime sector.
