By Capitol Hill, Monrovia – The Speaker of the honorable House of Representatives Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, is poised to probe allegations surrounding the altering of the 2024 national budget passed months ago.
In a facebook Post, Speaker Koffa vowed to seek the approval of the House of Representative’s Leadership in order to constitute a join committee with the Liberian Senate, charging them to investigate the accusations of the Executive branch clandestinely altering the 2024 national budget.
“Following numerous allegations on budget alterations, I will be asking the Leadership of the House of Representatives for the authority to appoint a Joint Committee with the Senate for a thorough investigation.” he noted.
According to him, the move to investigate the allegations from the public is to ensure transparency.
“We must not only be transparent, we must be perceived to be transparent.” he added.
In recent time, there have been growing concerns, linking the executive branch of government to slashing $20 Million from the approved 2024 national budget for undisclosed purpose. Opposition Senator Nathaniel F. McGill has been the latest, calling on the house speaker not to proceed with the upcoming 2025 budget debates nor recast.
