Two young pupils from the EJ Zion Nursery and Junior High School in Ganta have tragically drowned in a nearby sandpit, sending shock and grief through the community.
Seven-year-old Miracle T. Roberts and eight-year-old Enoch Colema reportedly left school during class hours with another child to play at the site, located a short distance from campus, where the incident occurred. Their bodies were later taken to Ganta United Methodist Hospital.
Residents are mourning the loss while raising concerns about the dangers posed by uncovered, water-filled sandpits in the area. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement, but an investigation is underway, according to Radio Kerghemahn.
The tragedy comes amid heightened tension in Nimba County, following another shocking incident just a day earlier in which a 61-year-old woman allegedly beheaded her three grandchildren after reportedly being accused of witchcraft by their father. The back-to-back incidents have deepened grief across the county and renewed calls for stronger child protection and community safety measures.
