Accra, Ghana — The Ghana Police Service says it has launched a full investigation into the death of a 26-year-old Liberian national, Austin Tengeeh, following a violent incident at an apartment complex in Lashibi near Sakumono in the Accra Region.

In an official statement issued Monday, the Accra Regional Police Command disclosed that the incident occurred on Friday, February 27, when the deceased visited his brother at the residence accompanied by his girlfriend. Police preliminary findings indicate that the apartment caretaker raised an alarm accusing Tengeeh of theft, prompting some residents and members of the public to assault him.

Police patrol officers responding to a distress call reportedly arrived swiftly at the scene, rescued the victim, and transported him to the Sakumono Community Hospital for emergency treatment. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.

Authorities confirmed that the body has since been deposited at the Lashibi Funeral Home for preservation and autopsy as part of ongoing investigations.

The police further announced the arrest of three suspects — Vincent Adzikah, Francis Amuzu, and William Addison — who remain in custody assisting with the probe. A fourth suspect, Enoch Mensah, is currently on the run, with police intensifying efforts to apprehend him. The arrested suspects are expected to be processed through the courts as investigations progress.

The Command has strongly cautioned the public against engaging in mob justice, stressing that such actions are criminal and undermine the rule of law. Police are urging citizens to report suspected wrongdoing to authorities rather than take matters into their own hands.

Meanwhile, the Embassy of Liberia in Ghana is monitoring the situation, while officials in Liberia have called for a thorough investigation and accountability.

Police say updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
