Monrovia — Former Zina Hill Land Administrator Anthony Cole has accused a senior officer of the Liberian National Police of issuing death threats against him over a disputed piece of land, raising fresh concerns about the alleged abuse of authority in private property conflicts.
Addressing a press conference in Paynesville, Cole said he felt compelled to go public after an encounter with Assistant Commissioner of Police John G. Kemoh, whom he claims confronted him at a property along the GSA Road near Zina Hill Junction. Cole alleged that during the confrontation, the police officer threatened to kill him if he refused to relinquish the land.
Cole further alleged that Commissioner Kemoh attempted to assert ownership of the property without presenting legal documents, despite the land being clearly marked and supported by cartographic records showing neighboring boundaries. He claimed that the officer later sought to use his position to have him arrested, an effort that reportedly failed after a station commander advised that the matter be resolved through the courts.
Recalling a previous incident in the same community where he said threats against him were followed by the burning of his home, Cole said his current disclosure is intended as a precautionary alert to prevent a repeat of such violence.
Emphasizing respect for the rule of law, Cole warned against the misuse of public office, noting that law enforcement officers are mandated to protect lives and property, not endanger them. He confirmed that he has consulted legal counsel and is preparing to pursue formal legal action, including possible charges related to menacing and threatening conduct, while refraining from discussing land cases already before the courts.
Cole stressed that his allegations are directed at an individual and not the Liberian National Police as an institution, which he commended, along with the Judiciary and national authorities, for their role in maintaining public order.
When contacted for comment on January 3, 2026, Assistant Commissioner Kemoh indicated that he was consulting with his lawyer and the LNP spokesperson and would address the allegations once those consultations are concluded.
