GANTA, Nimba County — A leisure outing turned tragic on Friday afternoon after a young man lost his life at the Jackie Pool, a popular recreational spot in Ganta City.

According to accounts from bystanders, three young men had gone swimming at the facility. While two of them later exited the pool and sat nearby, the third remained in the water for an extended period, raising concern among those present.

The individual, widely known in the community by the nickname “Comedian Too Big,” was eventually retrieved from the pool by staff members after he appeared to be unresponsive. Emergency efforts were immediately initiated at the scene before he was rushed to the Ganta Methodist Hospital. Medical personnel later confirmed that he had died. His age has not yet been officially established.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear, and authorities have not released details on whether medical conditions, safety lapses, or other factors may have played a role. The Liberia National Police in Ganta have since opened an investigation to determine the cause of death.

News of the incident spread quickly across the city, leaving residents, friends, and family members in shock. Many described the deceased as lively and well-known, making the loss even more painful for the local community.

This latest tragedy has also revived public concern about safety at the Jackie Pool. In December 2024, a similar incident reportedly claimed the life of a 23-year-old man from Yekepa. That earlier case was said to have been resolved privately between a church group and the Jackie family.

As investigations continue, residents are calling for improved safety measures at public swimming facilities to prevent future loss of life. Authorities say further information will be released as findings emerge.
