Liberia has announced new electricity prices that will begin on January 1, 2026, and run until December 31, 2028. The new tariff shows that many customers will pay less for power, although the cost to get a new connection has increased.

‎For social customers who use 25 units or less per month, the price will drop from 15 cents to 13 cents per unit, and they will continue paying no fixed monthly charge. Prepaid residential customers will now pay 22 cents per unit instead of 24 cents, and their monthly charge will fall from $2.48 to $2.00. Postpaid residential customers will also pay 22 cents instead of 24 cents, with their fixed charge dropping from $4.47 to $3.79.

‎For small businesses using prepaid meters, the price per unit remains 22 cents, but the fixed monthly charge is reduced from $10.00 to $8.48. Postpaid commercial customers will continue paying 22 cents per unit, while their fixed charge will drop from $12.00 to $10.17. Medium-voltage customers using 22kV or 33kV lines will experience a slight increase in price from 19 cents to 20 cents per unit, but their monthly fixed charge will reduce from $50.00 to $42.40.

‎Connection fees have changed significantly. A single-phase connection, which most homes use, will now cost $70 instead of $22, a major increase. However, customers will not pay this fee if the connection is funded by the government, donors, or third-party projects. A three-phase connection will now cost $340, slightly lower than the previous $350 fee.

‎Overall, the new tariff brings reductions for most consumers and businesses, but the cost of getting a new connection has gone up.
