Monrovia, Liberia – Omar Alieu Touray, President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, has clarified that the recent visit to Liberia was pre-scheduled and unrelated to a complaint by former President Joseph Boakai, contrary to some media reports.

In a statement, President Touray noted, “Our trip to Liberia was part of our regular engagement with member nations and happened to align with a concern raised by former President Boakai.

The timing of our visit and his complaint are purely coincidental.”

Touray highlighted that the delegation’s main aim was to commend Liberia’s peaceful political transition and reaffirm ECOWAS’s support for the government.

“We are here to acknowledge the smooth transition and to show our ongoing support for Liberia’s democratic process,” Touray said.

Addressing former president Weah concerns about recent violence at the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) headquarters, Touray confirmed the delegation was aware of the issue but stressed it was not the visit’s purpose. “We are monitoring the situation at the CDC headquarters closely,” he added.

Of recent there has been a speculation linking the ECOWAS delegation’s plan visit to Liberia as the mean purpose of former president Weah communication.
