Monrovia, Liberia — The Coalition for Democratic Change–Council of Patriots (CDC-COP) has called for an independent review following recent public remarks by Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung Sr. regarding the death of Representative Solomon George.
In a statement issued Friday, the group expressed concern about the circumstances surrounding the lawmaker’s passing and encouraged authorities in Liberia to ensure that all relevant facts are carefully examined.
The CDC-COP referenced comments made by Vice President Koung at the Capitol Building, where he indicated that the late Representative George had been at his residence prior to his death. He also acknowledged that he was unable to respond to calls from the lawmaker during that period.
According to the group, these remarks have generated public interest and underscore the importance of providing clarity on the sequence of events.
The CDC-COP is urging the Liberia National Police to conduct a professional and independent inquiry. The group suggested that standard procedures such as medical review, forensic assessment, and examination of communication records could help establish a clearer understanding of what occurred.
While noting the sensitivity of the situation, the CDC-COP emphasized the importance of transparency and due process. The group highlighted that a careful and impartial review would help maintain public confidence and ensure that all concerns are addressed responsibly.
The statement also encouraged institutions such as the Liberia National Bar Association, civil society organizations, and international partners—including the European Union, African Union, ECOWAS, and the United States Embassy in Monrovia—to follow the process and support efforts aimed at ensuring accountability.
The CDC-COP concluded by noting that a thorough and balanced review would provide answers for the public and the family of the late lawmaker, while reinforcing confidence in the country’s legal and governance systems.
