Calm restore in Vahun District Days After Electoral Violence in the area

Vahun, Lofa County–Normal activities has resume in Vahun District upper Lofa County as Joint Security, Local Authority, in the county end an hour long peace dialogue with political parties in district.

The dialogue was held on Monday September 4, 2023 following an electoral violence that occured over the weekend between supporters of Unity part and ruling CDC. The forum brought together representatives from political parties, independent candidates, District Authority, Traditional and Religious Leaders amongst several others.

As part of the peace making process, contestants of the October 10 presidential and legislative elections alone with supporters in the region were urged to maintain the peace the district has enjoyed for the past decade.

According to report, Vahun District has been the zone of electoral conflict Over the weekend as individuals believes to be partisans of the Coalition for Democratic Change were seen chasing with members of the Unity Party.

The Saturday violence left the CDC headquarter in Vahun damaged while many flew from the town to nearby villages for safety. The situation according to eyewitnesses became tense during evening hour; Therefore drawing attention of the county officials as well as the Police Support Unit (PSU).

The weekend accident in the upper region of the county is said to be the first reported electoral violence in Lofa County since the commencement of 2023 campaign.As a means of preventing such occurrence, Stewart’s of political parties in Vahun have pledged to guarantee peace especially in the ongoing campaign period until election is conducted in October.
