MONROVIA– President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. left Liberia this morning for the United States on a working trip scheduled through April 30, the Executive Mansion confirmed Wednesday.
The centerpiece of the President’s visit is the 34th Annual Africa Peace Awards at California State University, Sacramento, where he is slated to receive the Peace Leadership Award and deliver the keynote speech. The award cites his record on peacebuilding, democratic governance, and inclusive development in Liberia and across Africa.
Boakai is accompanied by a six-person delegation. It includes Minister of State Without Portfolio Mamaka Bility; Cabinet Director General Nathaniel Kwabo; Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah; Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah; Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman; and Professor Robert Sherman, who chairs the Council of Liberian Experts in the Diaspora (COLED).
Beyond the awards ceremony, the Liberian delegation plans a series of meetings with U.S. partners and stakeholders. Discussions are expected to focus on governance, investment opportunities, and human capacity development, as Liberia looks to bolster bilateral ties.
To maintain government operations during the trip, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah has been designated to chair Cabinet meetings in consultation with the President and Vice President.
The visit marks Boakai’s latest international engagement since taking office, underscoring Monrovia’s push for stronger diplomatic and economic linkages. It also puts Liberia’s governance and peace record under the spotlight at a continental forum.
The President’s office described the trip as part of Liberia’s broader effort toward international engagement, stability, and sustainable development.
