Monrovia, Liberia — In a groundbreaking ceremony at the Capitol Hill Campus, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. officially launched Liberia’s inaugural doctoral programs, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s academic landscape.
This historic event introduces Ph.D. programs in Health Sciences and Education Administration, aiming to enhance Liberia’s intellectual and research capabilities.
During his address, President Boakai emphasized the transformative potential of these programs. “This marks a turning point in Liberia’s higher education landscape,” he stated. He underscored the government’s commitment to fostering academic excellence as part of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), which prioritizes education alongside other vital sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and sanitation.
“These doctoral programs are crucial in addressing challenges within our educational system, including access, quality, and outcomes,” he continued, highlighting the need for advanced educational frameworks to support sustainable national development.
The introduction of these programs is expected to attract international scholars and enhance Liberia’s status as a hub for research and innovation in West Africa. President Boakai reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting higher education through increased funding and partnerships with global academic institutions.
The University of Liberia plans to offer specialized tracks within the Ph.D. in Education, focusing on Educational Administration, Measurements and Evaluation, and Curriculum and Instruction. The Health Sciences track will feature concentrations in Biomedical Sciences and Public Health. These initiatives are designed to cultivate leadership and advanced research skills among students, preparing them for significant contributions to the fields of education and healthcare.
