EPA Cracks Down on Non-Compliant Mineral Water Companies in Monrovia

Monrovia, –The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia has begun a sweeping enforcement action against mineral water companies operating in Monrovia, shutting down several facilities for failing to comply with environmental and public health regulations.

The exercise, which commenced on Tuesday, is expected to continue throughout the week as part of the EPA’s broader effort to strengthen regulatory compliance within the country’s bottled water industry.

On the first day of the operation, the EPA ordered the closure of multiple mineral water producers, including Jolly Jolly Mineral Water in Airfield, Lakpazee; Royalty Aqua Mineral Water Company on Old Road behind Kailondo Guest House; Kro-Tou Mineral Water in Airfield, Sinkor; Gboni Mineral Water in Airfield, Sinkor; Jafene Mineral Water in Airfield, Sinkor; Jan’s Spring Mineral Water in Airfield, Sinkor; and Mount Wologisi Mineral Water Factory on 20th Street.

According to the EPA, the affected companies were found to be operating in violation of established environmental, safety, and quality standards designed to protect public health and ensure safe drinking water for consumers.

The agency emphasized that the shutdowns are not punitive but corrective, intended to compel compliance with national regulations. Officials warned that additional mineral water companies could face similar action if they fail to meet the required standards.

“The EPA remains committed to safeguarding public health and the environment,” the agency noted, stressing that all mineral water producers must adhere strictly to regulatory requirements before resuming operations.

The enforcement action comes amid growing public concern over the quality and safety of locally produced bottled water, particularly in densely populated areas of the capital.
