Monrovia, Liberia — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has appointed former Youth and Sports Minister, Cllr. Jerror Cole Bangalu, as Executive Director of the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), while nominating Attorney Cornelia W. Kruah to take over as Minister of Youth and Sports.

The appointments form part of a broader strategic effort by the President to reposition key national institutions to respond to emerging security, migration, and governance challenges facing Liberia and the wider Mano River region.

According to an Executive Mansion release, President Boakai’s decision to strengthen and expand the mandate of the LRRRC reflects growing concerns over cross-border movements, refugee management, returnee reintegration, and regional migration dynamics that increasingly impact Liberia’s territorial integrity and national security.

“With rising regional migration pressures and porous borders in a rapidly changing global environment, Liberia requires an institutional response that goes beyond traditional humanitarian coordination,” the President noted. The repositioned LRRRC is expected to play a more strategic role in migration management, cross-border coordination, and engagement with international and regional migration protocols.

Cllr. Bangalu’s appointment is intended to bolster the Commission’s operational leadership and inter-agency coordination. President Boakai praised him for his service to the youth of Liberia and expressed confidence that his legal expertise, administrative experience, and public service record will guide the LRRRC effectively in its expanded national role.

In a related development, President Boakai nominated Attorney Cornelia W. Kruah as Minister of Youth and Sports, succeeding Cllr. Bangalu. Her nomination signals continuity in youth development and sports administration, while bringing legal and policy expertise to the ministry.

Meanwhile, the President also appointed Honorable Jackson Paye as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA).

All nominations, where applicable, are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

The announcement was signed by Atty. Kula Bonah Nyei Fofana, Presidential Press Secretary.
