Monrovia, Liberia – Former President George Weah has sharply criticized the Unity Party-led government following the eviction and demolition of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) headquarters in Monrovia, calling the action a “failed mission to destroy and erase the CDC.”
The operation, executed by the Liberia National Police and court officers, followed a writ of search and eviction issued by the Monrovia City Court. The order authorized security forces to search the premises for illicit substances, weapons, and other prohibited materials, while enforcing a disputed property claim.
In a press statement, Weah described the eviction as “unfortunate and regrettable,” accusing the administration of President Joseph Boakai of abusing power and undermining the rule of law. “Their list of violations grows daily from police brutality against ordinary citizens to outright disregard of court orders,” he alleged.
Prior to the CDC Leader’s Claim, President Boakai interacting with the press upon his arrival at the Roberts international airport from Japan in response to the CDC Headquarters Demolition stated that the exercise was inline with the rule of law which was implemented the government through the Court assisted by the police.

“it’s s not the government; it is the government’s implementation of the law. The police were ordered to carry out the action, and they did. That demolition was simply the removal of people from premises that did not belong to them.” He added.
Despite his criticisms, the former President urged his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, promising that the CDC would rebuild. He announced the creation of a Special National Headquarters Delivery Committee to begin immediate work on a new party office.
The eviction has divided public opinion, with government supporters defending the move as lawful, while critics argue it risks heightening political tension in Liberia.
