Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has announced its full preparedness to enforce a court order mandating the eviction of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) from its headquarters in Monrovia.
The Sixth Judicial Circuit Court recently issued a writ of possession, authorizing the LNP to assist in carrying out the eviction on Saturday, August 23, 2025. The ruling comes after years of a protracted land dispute over ownership of the property where the CDC established its national headquarters.
In a strongly worded statement, the LNP reaffirmed its neutrality and constitutional mandate to uphold the rule of law, stressing that it will carry out the court’s decision without fear or favor.
“Compliance with the law is not weakness, but strength,” the police declared, urging the CDC, as one of Liberia’s leading political parties, to demonstrate leadership by respecting the authority of the courts.
The police further cautioned CDC partisans and supporters to remain calm and law-abiding during the enforcement process, warning that any act of violence or resistance could undermine Liberia’s hard-earned peace.
The eviction order has stirred public debate, with critics questioning its timing and political undertones, while others view it as a significant milestone for property rights and judicial authority in Liberia.
Prior to the police Release, the Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Janga Augustus Kowo announced that the party will remain stationed at its headquarters until the Supreme Court of Liberia delivers its ruling on the matter currently before it, adding that the CDC remains firm in its position and will continue to operate from its headquarters until the legal process is concluded.
As the nation watches closely, the weekend eviction is expected to test not only the CDC’s response but also the resilience of Liberia’s democracy and commitment to the rule of law.
