Toronto, Canada – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has revealed plans to establish Liberia’s first embassy in Canada since the 1980s, a significant step toward enhancing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During the Liberia Investment Forum 2024 in Toronto, President Boakai noted, “Liberia has been without an official presence in Canada for over forty years, and we aim to address this by 2025.”

He highlighted that this decision responds to requests from the approximately 30,000-strong Liberian community in Canada and is part of Liberia’s wider strategy to develop stronger economic and diplomatic ties with Canada.

“Our Trade and Investment Office in Mississauga was the initial step, and the establishment of an embassy will further solidify our relationship and promote mutual growth,” Boakai said at the conference.

This announcement aligns with Liberia’s goal to boost global engagement and attract Canadian investments in sectors like energy, mining, and agriculture.
