Bo Waterside, Cape Mount – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) announced the seizure of 400 plates of compressed marijuana valued at USD 22,724 during a routine search at the Bo Waterside Port on September 16.

The operation involved a white mini bus with a Guinean license plate (#AG 1253), from which the two drivers managed to escape. One of them, identified as Ansumana Kanneh, 39, was apprehended later by Joint Security Officers at the Tienii Check Point. The mini bus has been impounded, and Kanneh is currently under investigation, with plans for prosecution to follow.

The seized marijuana, weighing approximately 299 kilograms, highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

In a related operation on September 17, LDEA agents executed drug raids across Montserrado County, leading to the arrest of several suspected drug dealers. During these raids, agents confiscated various illicit substances, including marijuana, methamphetamine (Kush), cocaine, heroin, and precursor chemicals, totaling 270.7 grams with a street value of USD 6,538.64.

In a significant move, the LDEA has placed two agents, Abraham Goffa and Jusu Varney, on administrative leave amid allegations of misconduct during the Montserrado raids. Reports indicate they took personal belongings from residents, prompting an internal investigation by the Agency’s Board of Internal Inquiry and Professional Standards (BIIPS).

The LDEA reiterated its commitment to fighting drug-related crimes while maintaining transparency and accountability in its operations, assuring the public of its dedication to upholding the rule of law.
