LNP, Tricyclists, Motorcyclists Sign MOU to Begin “no-go zone” Restrictions on May 15, 2024

MONROVIA–The agreement specifies safety precautions to be taken as well as limitations and rules for tricyclists (Kehkeh) and motorcyclists.

Specifics of the Agreement are:

  1. Motorcyclists shall not be permitted to use the main route between Central Monrovia and Free Port, nor from ELWA-Boulevard to Central Monrovia.
  2. Using the Japan Freeway and the RIA will be an option for cyclists.
  3. Color-coding, instruction, helmets, coats, boots, and public safety awareness are all covered under the agreement.

Motorcycle riders who ride for pleasure or business are free from these limitations.

  1. All parties have signed the agreement that contains the above provisions.

Why the Many Restrictions?
The enforcement of the no-go zones aims at improving public safety as well as to reduce traffic congestion in specific areas of the country.

Furthermore, the agreement States that with adherence of enforcing color coding and safety measures, the authorities hope to enhance road safety for both motorcyclists and pedestrians.

The introduction of no-go zones, as agreed upon by the Police, Motorcyclists, and Tricyclists, is a major step toward enhancing road safety and controlling traffic in Liberia.

The effective implementation of this project, which is scheduled to begin on May 15, 2024, will depend on strict compliance to the specified rules and safety protocols.
