Monrovia — The Government of Liberia, through the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company, has confirmed that petroleum prices will increase on the Liberian market in the coming days.
Speaking on OK FM Thursday morning, LPRC Managing Director Amos Tweh attributed the planned increment to the intensifying conflict between the United States and Iran. He said the major international shipping route used to transport petroleum products is experiencing significant disruptions, which are driving up costs globally.
According to Tweh, gasoline will increase by more than 15 percent, while diesel will increase by more than 30 percent. He noted that an official announcement on the new prices will be made by the LPRC soon.
The LPRC Managing Director said the government’s immediate focus is on ensuring product availability. He assured citizens that authorities are working with stakeholders to keep fuel on the market despite the global challenges.
The expected increase is likely to affect transportation fares, the cost of goods, and power generation across the country.
