The Unity Party (UP) has announced its Homecoming and Fundraising Program scheduled for December 6, 2025, under the theme: “Positioning the Unity Party for Long-Term Political Vibrancy, Policy Reform, Infrastructural Development, and Membership Drive.” While intended as a show of party strength, the announcement has drawn criticism over the selection of officials leading the event.
Senator Dabah M. Varpilah, the UP’s First Vice Chairperson, was named head of the National Steering Committee, which includes several party figures who have significant influence over state resources. Political commentators say these appointments raise questions about whether the upcoming fundraising drive—aimed at acquiring national and county headquarters—is truly a grassroots effort or a consolidation of access to state-backed assets.
The National Fundraising Committee, chaired by Cornelia Kruah and cochaired by Edmund Ford, will lead efforts to mobilize financial support. Observers note that the committee’s members, many of whom occupy powerful positions or have close ties to government-controlled resources, are strategically placed to control the flow of funds, raising concerns about transparency and accountability.
County-level fundraising committees mirror this pattern, with lawmakers and party officials overseeing local mobilization. Critics argue that such arrangements concentrate influence in the hands of a few, sidelining ordinary party members and smaller donors.
Meanwhile, the Media and Publicity Committee, led by Mo Ali, and the Mobilization and Recruitment Committee, chaired by Whroway Bryant, are tasked with managing the event’s communications and membership drives. Some analysts suggest that the committees’ composition reflects a preference for experienced insiders with strong political connections rather than broader engagement at the grassroots level.
The announcement has prompted debate within political circles and among partisans about the manner in which the December Homecoming is being organized. While the party portrays the event as a platform for revitalization, critics warn it could be interpreted as a showcase of elite control over both party structures and financial resources.
As the December event approaches, questions about transparency, accountability, and the concentration of power within the Unity Party remain unresolved, making the Homecoming one of the most closely watched political gatherings of the year.
