“This Act Will Not Go Unchecked”: Senator Cyrus Condemns Voinjama Bank Heist, Pushes for Swift Justice

Monrovia, Liberia — Lofa County Senator Momo Tarnuekollie Cyrus has sharply condemned the burglary at Voinjama’s only community bank the Kolahun Rural Community Financial Institution, describing it as a direct threat to the safety and economic well-being of residents.

‎The Senator assured citizens that he is engaging with the Liberia National Police and other security agencies to ensure a swift investigation that will bring the perpetrators to justice.

‎“This act will not go unchecked. Together with our security apparatus, we will pursue the matter until justice is served,” Senator Cyrus vowed.

‎He also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as efforts are taken to reinforce community security and safeguard lives and property.

‎The robbery, which reportedly occurred Tuesday night, involved unidentified criminals breaking through the back of the building and forcing their way into the main savings room. The incident has unsettled residents who rely heavily on the bank as the only financial institution in the area.

‎The bank is a community-owned and locally managed bank established under a Central Bank of Liberia initiative in 2015 to expand financial services to rural counties. It provides savings and loan facilities, money transfers, and salary disbursements, making it the primary financial lifeline for thousands in Lofa.

‎In 2023, the Voinjama branch received major support through the World Bank and IFAD-backed STAR-P project, which funded electrification, renovations, and security upgrades, including the bank’s first bullion van for safe cash transfers.

‎For many residents, the Senator’s strong reaction offers reassurance that authorities will not rest until those behind the burglary face the full weight of the law.
