Senator Amara Konneh Blasts Vendors Over High Prices‎ of Commodities

Monrovia, Liberia – Gbarpolu County Senator Amara Konneh, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts and Audit, has accused local vendors of deliberately inflating market prices despite government efforts to stabilize the economy.

‎In a Facebook post, Senator Konneh expressed frustration over the persistent high costs of basic goods and services, noting that prices do not reflect the government’s reported economic gains.

‎“While we acknowledge the strides made by the government in stabilizing our economy, it is disheartening to see that some vendors are still choosing to exploit consumers by maintaining inflated prices,” Konneh said. “This is not only unfair to our citizens but also detrimental to the overall economic recovery we are striving for.”

‎The senator’s comments come at a time when Liberians continue to grapple with the soaring cost of living, particularly for essential commodities such as rice, oil, and transportation services.

‎Konneh urged vendors to align their pricing practices with the government’s economic stabilization agenda, warning that sustained price manipulation could weaken public trust in both the markets and government policy.

‎He further called for stricter monitoring and regulation of market prices to protect ordinary citizens. According to him, a partnership between government authorities and vendors is necessary to build a fairer pricing system that truly reflects improved economic conditions.

‎“A collaborative effort between the government and vendors could lead to a more equitable structure, one that mirrors the stability we are beginning to see in our economy,” he added.

‎With the government’s stabilization program under close public scrutiny, Konneh’s remarks highlight a critical moment in Liberia’s economic recovery. The senator stressed that accountability and fairness in the marketplace are indispensable if Liberians are to feel the benefits of economic reforms.

‎As Liberia navigates this recovery period, all eyes remain on policymakers and market stakeholders to ensure that progress at the national level translates into relief for the country’s struggling households.
